UEMO President Highlights Progress on Family Medicine Recognition at CEOM Plenary in Ljubljana
UEMO President Tiago Villanueva attended in the CEOM Plenary meeting on 27 March, in Ljubljana, where he gave an update of UEMO’s activities, in particular the latest developments to pursue the recognition of the specialty of general practice/family medicine in Europe (the notification of Spain to the European Commission requesting inclusion of general practice/family medicine in Annex 5.1.3 of the Profesional Qualifications Directive. The topics discussed at the meeting included measures to tackle medical deserts, training for physicians in the safe use of artificial intelligence, violence against doctors, and digital therapies in Europe. Tiago Villanueva also held separate meetings with incoming EURACT President Vesna Homar as well as with the President of the European Public Health Association, Tit Albreht, and visited the very well-resourced Via Medicus Practice in Zalec, in the north of Slovenia, which was established and is managed by Dr Vesna Pekarovic-Dzakulin, UEMO delegate for Slovenia.
