UEMO president highlights the importance of Family Medicine at Macedonian Congress
UEMO President Tiago Villanueva participated in the opening ceremony of the Congress of the Association of Doctors of General Practice / Family Medicine of Macedonia, held in Skopje from 15 to 18 May. The event was organized by UEMO Vice-President Dragan Gjorgjievski.
In his speech, Dr. Villanueva emphasized that North Macedonia stands to benefit significantly from closer European integration. He stressed the urgent need to enhance the recognition and visibility of family medicine among the public and policymakers alike. He also underlined that the career of a family physician demands robust, continuous medical education and ongoing professional development.
As part of his address, Dr. Villanueva delivered a lecture titled “Challenges in Family Medicine – How Can UEMO Help for Better Practice?” in which he outlined UEMO’s current policy advocacy efforts within European institutions to support and strengthen the field of family medicine.
