EC Communication on the European Health Union
On 22 May, the EC adopted the Communication on the European Health Union, highlighting the efforts made in EU health policy following the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Health Union was established ‘to preserve EU resilience and contribute to Europe’s societal wellbeing, strategic autonomy and geopolitical stability’.
In the last four years, this is what the Health Union has delivered:
- Stronger health security measures, to better respond to future crises.
- Equal and timely access to affordable medicines for all citizens
- A world-leading Cancer Plan
- Comprehensive action for better mental health
- Rules to boost patient safety and secure the supply of medicinal products
- A One Health approach to tackle major health risks
- Game-changing initiatives to digitalise healthcare
