Immunisation Week: protecting children’s health
Vaccines have played a key role in the fight against many diseases among children, including measles and polio. Between 2000 and 2018, vaccines have reduced child mortality due to measles by 73%. Similarly, polio, known for causing in the past devastating effects in children under five years of age is now close to being eradicated thanks to vaccinations.
However, since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, immunisation gaps seem to be increasing with many children in the WHO European Region falling behind their vaccination schedules.
During the European Immunization Week which starts today, UEMO aligns with EMA to remind all parents: Protect your child, catch-up on early childhood vaccination!
