UEMO welcomes announcement that general practice will be recognized as a specialty in the United Kingdom

UEMO has for many years been campaigning for recognition of General Practice / Family Medicine as a specialty in Europe through changes in European legislation.

There is still a long way to go in achieving this aim but we welcome the announcement that the Secretary of State for Health in the United Kingdom has promised legislation to enable General Practice, which currently has its own separate register, to be included in the same specialist register as all other specialties in the UK with he same parity of esteem and recognition as other specialties universally throughout Europe.
