European Immunization Week 2025: Healthcare professionals urge citizens to check their vaccination status
The WHO European Immunization Week (EIW) will take place from 27 April to 3 May 2025. In this context, the Coalition for Vaccination calls on healthcare professionals across Europe to promote routine immunisation for both children and adults.
This year’s campaign theme, “Immunisation for all is Humanly Possible”, underlines the importance of equitable vaccination coverage in every community to prevent future outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases. Recent data from the World Health Organization and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) raise concern over a sharp increase in measles cases, marking the highest number reported in more than 25 years.
Healthcare professionals stress the need to ensure MMR vaccination (two doses) for full protection against measles, mumps, and rubella. They also encourage the public to verify their vaccination records and follow their respective national immunisation schedules.
Additionally, a webinar titled “Closing vaccination gaps, reaching every community” will be organised on 28 April from 13:30 to 15:30 CEST, jointly hosted by ECDC, DG SANTE, and the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Interested participants can register here.
